Flower Care Guide

Hello Flower Friend

Thank you for being here.

Use these tips to get the most out of your blooms.

We grow them with love, and hope they will bring you

joy for a long, long time. Here’s to a life filled with flowers!

Getting the Most Out of Your Flowers

When you first bring your flowers home, open their wrapping and unfasten the rubber band. Lay them flat on a clean surface and consider your vessel options.

Choose a vessel that compliments the shape of the flower and length of the stem. You’ll want to support them by having a deep enough vessel or cutting your stems to a shorter size for a more diminutive vase.

Be certain your vessel is very clean; bacteria in the vessel can quickly multiply and clog the water-wicking abilities of your flowers’ stems. Your vessel should be as clean as a drinking glass when you first create your arrangement.

Trim your flowers down by about 1/2” if they have been sitting in their wrappings a few days. If you are bringing them directly from Alchemy Farmhouse, you can skip this step and only cut if you need to for size. Your stems have been given a fresh cut for you on CSA day.

Strip any excess foliage that will be below the waterline. This can cause excess decay and bacteria, decreasing your flowers’ vase life.

Fill your vase with cool, clean water for the best longevity. Conversely, adding warm water will open blooms up if you want to “ripen” then quicker.

When your flowers do start to stretch or fade, I recommend snipping their stems much shorter and placing them individually around your house to brighten lots of spaces.

Keeping your flowers in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight will keep their colors brightest and help maintain their expected longevity.
